Welcome to the DofE dates page. Please keep dates free if you wish to do expeditions with us.
We try to avoid clashes with other RGS trips but cannot avoid all of them.
If you cannot do an expedition, please contact dofe staff as soon as possible.
Please remember, to successfully pass DofE expeditions RGS students must…
1. Attend planning meets, complete planning by deadlines and pass a minimum of 2 expeditions i.e. training and qualifying. Some groups are sometimes required to complete more training. This is to ensure the safe operation of expeditions for everyone.
2. Complete the whole expedition… late drop offs or early pick ups mean participants do not pass that expedition and would have to do another one at another time.
3. Complete previous awards… RGS dofe students must earn their Bronze Award to continue with Silver and must pass Silver to continue with Gold.
4. Carry your own equipment. Participants must be fit enough to carry their own kit and be independent to complete the challenge. This is for the safety of everyone involved and is also one of the conditions for passing expeditions. If participants are unable to carry full kit due to illness or injury then they will need to to talk to staff as soon as possible to discuss options.

GOLD: Gold practice is at the end of the Summer term. Gold qualifying is in Mid-August, between A Level and GCSE results days. GOLD expeditions are now operated by our partners at Expeditions Wales and canoe external providers. RGS staff are fully involved with organising, supervising and looking after groups. Travel to and from expeditions is by coach.
SILVER: practice expeditions are after 4th Year internal exams in June; 5th year qualifying expeditions are through first weekend of October half term: please note that 5th year students wishing to go on other trips will need to check dates carefully to avoid potential clashes. A choice between them might have to be made.
BRONZE: practice through May bank holiday weekends; qualifying expeditions in October activities day weekend before half term.
